Reigen – Sheets for gallant art and dance – fought for the recognition of eroticism as a cultural factor. The magazine was confiscated in some German cities in the 1920s. Here is an original text excerpt from the 1920 Reigen booklet: “Even in the future, the magazine will continue to cultivate, through words and images, verse and prose, that art which is the amiable expression of cheerful and uninhibited gallantry. Even in our serious times, the erotic has not lost its cultural significance, though it sometimes appears as if its flourishing period lies in veiled epochs. Perhaps the importance of the inner joy of life, rooted in the erotic, has even particularly increased in an era not overly rich in external pleasures.”
